GOOD ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICES CODE OF CONDUCT
We invite you to follow these good practices so that, based on these guidelines for conduct by Port users and its team, we can make a commitment to follow behaviour that will preserve the environment.
Water is a scarce, indispensable resource and rational use must be made of it.
- Connect the hose to the tower first and turn off the tap before disconnecting it.
- Do not leave water flowing while you are washing down the deck.
- Use interrupted jet diffusers.
- Be aware of the use of water in the toilets and the shower.
- Warn Port staff if you detect a water leak.
We should reduce energy consumption as far as possible.
- Make the maximum use of natural light and use low-consumption bulbs where possible.
- Turn lights off whenever they are not necessary. Do not use lighting excessively because it is also a source of pollution and can annoy other Port users.
- First connect the cable to the boat’s socket and then to the service tower socket.
- Set the climatological thermostat rationally.
- Do not manipulate the supply towers; warn Port staff if any problem with their operation is detected.
- Once the batteries have been charged, first disconnect the service tower’s socket and then the boat’s socket.
Discharges cause a serious pollution effect.
- Empty grey and black water and the bilges in the corresponding place in the Port’s service station.
- Avoid using the boat’s toilets and showers while it is moored at the Port. You have this service available in our facilities, within reach of each pontoon.
- When washing down boats use biodegradable soaps and detergents.
- Carry out periodic maintenance of the boat and its engines to prevent leaks.
- In the case of accidental discharges, or if bad practices by other agents are detected, warn Port staff.
- When filling up with fuel, make sure the quantity requested is matches the capacity of the tank and the need for fuel at that time.
Avoid discharging fuel into the water. - Do not pour any hazardous substance into the sewers.
- If you have to carry out any maintenance task on the boat, take maximum precautions over where material used in buckets is placed and assess whether personal protection items need to be used. If necessary, use the boatyard working area for polishing work, always using dust vacuum cleaning machinery.
- Warn Port staff if you detect any accidental leak and ask for absorbent material if you consider it necessary.
Separating waste and using the Clean Point
- Separate the urban waste generated and place it in the specific containers (paper, organic material, plastics and batteries) at the pontoon gate. Glass must be taken to the Clean Point or placed in other containers distributed around the Port.
- Take special waste (oils, grease, batteries, remains of paint, fluorescent tubes and others) to the Green Point. Do not leave expired flares in the containers at the Green Point or anywhere else on the site. They must be returned to the manufacturer.
- Do not dump any kind of waste anywhere in the Port or pour it into the sewers. If you have any query about waste treatment, contact Port staff.
Atmospheric emissions and noise pollution
- Respect the speed limits set for both wheeled vehicles and boats on the Port site. Encourage journeys with clean vehicles, promoting a better quality environment and improved health. The port site has parking for bicycles within reach of each pontoon.
- Keep boat engines in good condition so that combustion is good and avoid the emission of polluting particles into the atmosphere. Keep them on as little as possible so as not to generate unnecessary noise, particularly at night.
- Concerning noise pollution, do not leave sheets slack so that they hit the mast, as this is a common source of avoidable noise in ports.
- Consult the harbourmaster’s staff about any unusual activity you may want to organise, so that together you can establish minimal rules for good coexistence.
Responsible, environmentally sensitive sailing.
- Respect the areas of the environment sensitive to sailing, such as the Posidonia prairies, and meet the requirement for sailing that respects the routes of animals, such as the Canons del Maresme. www.canyonsdelmaresme.cat/els-canyons-submarins/.
- Do not tip rubbish or any substance, such as oils, paints, solvents or any solid waste into the sea, not even organic waste or cigarette ends.
- Avoid discharging fuel into the water.
- Avoid noise and excessive speed when sailing.
- Respect the silence of nature and enjoy sailing.
